AI-Based Film Challenge

Problem Statement

Filmmaking traditionally requires multiple stages of creative and technical production — from developing an idea and writing a script to creating visuals, animation, sound, voice and final post-production. Today, artificial intelligence is changing how creators can approach each of these stages.

Your Challenge

Create a compelling short film that uses Artificial Intelligence as a meaningful part of the filmmaking process.

Participants must develop an original 3–7 minute film that demonstrates how AI can be used creatively to enhance storytelling, visual expression or the filmmaking process.

AI may be used in one or more production stages, including:

• Concept development & scriptwriting
• Character development & digital acting
• Visual generation & animation
• Voice generation or dubbing
• Music composition & sound effects design
• Editing, color grading, and post-production

Key Challenge

How can you use AI not just to make a film, but to tell a story that would be difficult, impossible, or fundamentally different to create using conventional filmmaking methods?

The strongest entries will demonstrate that the technology serves the story — rather than the story simply serving the technology. Use AI as a creative collaborator, not a replacement for creativity.

Expected Submissions

Participants must submit:

• 1. Short Film: Runtime between 3 and 7 minutes (submitted in high-definition video format).
• 2. Concept Note: A brief explanation of the story, creative vision and intended message.
• 3. AI Usage Breakdown: An explanation detailing where, how, and which AI tools were used during the filmmaking process.
